Also, and this was pretty cool... a group in MIT doing some of the work for
getting bikes to guatemala (Maya Pedal) for use as bikes and mechanical
systems. bikesnotbombs are involved in that too - I think they were the
original link. They are led by Radu Raduta (rradu@mit.edu) and it is part of
the MIT Electronics Research Society. They have a site at
http://miters.mit.edu/index.php/Maya_Pedal and the main project is at
http://www.mayapedal.com/. It might be an interesting aspect to cover.
The guy who told me this (and provided sustenance at rest stop 2!) is called Kit Transue, and we should mention him if we get in contact with the MIT group.
