News Group Minutes - 6 Feb 06
Present - Ann, Elisa, Andrew, Ricardo, Buz, Birgit, Gabriella, Jim?
Review of old Episode
Ricardo on his own piece - it was shot on short notice. Would use tripod and mic if given more time. Buz on his slight edit putting this piece into episode 7 - slightly stepped on the audio at the beginning, could have used a stretch of the initial pan shot to get enough footage to cover the voiceover intro. Several people liked the slow zooms where students commented.
Birgit on her homeless piece. Wasn't completely satisfied with the ending, some shots were slightly unsteady. Buz hadn't noticed those things and thought the piece was teriffic.
Ann suggests we make a point of always reviewing the show right after watching it. Lots of discussion as to how to accomplish this, since it comes on at 8:30 and the station closes at 9:00. Some ideas - watch a dvd earlier (issue if the show isn't done early - since the show is submitted as an mpg file now.) Where we can do this if not on the night of the premier - 8th floor conference room where we sometimes have to meed doesn't have av equipment.
Elisa - how about giving out a form that could be filled in anonmously, or at home and turned in next meeting. This would collect comments even from people who didn't come to the meeting.
Another idea - adjourn to the CoOp meeting room at 9:00.
Buz asked if producers approved of the mini-clips that h chose to roll during the credit page at the end of the show for their segment, and reminded people that they can pre-choose their preferred mini-clip and submit that (in the form of saying how many seconds into the show the desired clip starts), along with title, introduction phrase, and full credits.
Next Show:
Ricardo is planning a piece about the closing of Mojo records. (Shooting was thursday afternoon, digitizing friday. Also Kids using Media is still on his agenda.
Angel is editing Jacques' Black History Month Piece.
Jim had taped the Belt Sander races and has great footage.
Jen's Four Square piece is in the can from last month.
Elisa - State of the Union protest, footage logged, half digitized. She had also thought of including the names of the soldiers recently honored by the city council as part of the story. Buz suggests it could be a short piece on its own.
Ricardo again - wants to do a future piece on the "aliens" guy, i.e. the citizen who submitted pictures of aliens to the Cambridge City Council. Several volunteers were available to help.
Ann - two pending projects. Dance Hall Update - forum discussion happening later in the week, expects to need edit help. Issues story line, interviews, will meet with Andrew. Other piece - still interested in a katrina story (has one interview?)
There was some discussion about which pieces might really be ready, but there seemed to be a wealth of material this month.
Meeting locations:
Elisa - said that next week we are on the 8th floor again, and the following week is a holiday.
Send corrections and additions to Buz.
