July 7 2005 Meeting Minutes

Over Falafel:

Jim: 5 minutes cycling Buz: 6 minutes weather Carlene: fireworks to stretch Buz: Trees & Roofs to stretch AnnC: 7.3 minutes

Jennifer had to go home early

Present: Angel is printing to tape, joins us later. Buz Carlene AnnC Matt Birgit Jim Andrew Freeman

Matt: Production contract for this and future episodes have been approved. Eli thinks it will be on same schedule as last time. 3 times a week.

Jim proposes segments viewed at end. Matt requests that segments we haven't seen yet be screened now

New member: Carlene

We approve the minutes

Check-in: Ann: Contra Dancing piece: "Can the youth center have a dance hall?" is 7 minutes. Editing is continuing, parts may be tightened, still more stuff to be added.

Freeman: Working on cert tape. Jonah mentions that segment can be used as a cert tape. Has an idea that requires crew.

Jim: Piece on Bike Week is 4:50.

    • <Andrew: When final cut made, send final run time to Renato>
    • <Sunday is edit day. Get pieces in early if possible. CCTV is open from 4-9.>

Andrew: Piece held over from last show. Looks like we won't need it.

Angel: "Kids Just Want to Have Fun" just under 6 mins, may need some audio tweaks, but close to done.

Brigit & Matt have "North Cambridge Arts" 5:30.

Jonah: 2 minutes of walking through Cambridge: "Cambridge Walk" Buz notes that piece is good and might be nice to not break it up.

Buz: Weather piece is 6 minutes. My be choppable, but won't be easy. Also has rooftop filler

Carlene: 3.5 minute piece from fireworks on the 4th. Possible for credits.

Moogie has cameras piece ready 6:00

Jennifer's Badminton piece at about 3:00. Jennifer not here, but Birgit remembers that piece "can be finished if needed."

Jim mentions that piece can drop to 2 minutes with more added in a future segment.

We note that show is over time. We decide to watch stuff to see what/how we can cut to time. Are 7 segments too much for 30 minutes?

Matt: Previous show was 27 minutes to fit between b-live episodes. Show can be aired more often if it fits in 27.

Andrew: good to push for as many airings as possible. Helps us get more people in, more exposure.

Matt: Might be good to keep some pieces back to help ensure a complete show next month.

Matt, Birgit, Renato and Andrew met and proposed a draft order:

Surveillance piece <- Closest to investigative journalism. Arts Festival or Badminton <-Culture Cycling <-Break from culture Weather Badminton ? Kids ? Contra Dancing <-more culture

Ann: Might be good to start with kids piece: Fun start to draw people in.

Angel: could be good to end on a fun note.

Consensus: Lets watch

Jim: Bike week: piece. 2 minute version is time sensitive. Rest goes with interview being done on Tuesday, can be pushed back.

Angel's piece: Kids Just Want to Have Fun Angel notes that permissions taken care of. (Kids interviewed are mostly relatives.) Voice over needs re-leveling, but should be an easy fix.

<Clarification: Credits are not put in by producers.>

Buz: Weather piece Lots of audio edits to remove expletives. Larry Summers house section: Features artificial house set. Brings up some honesty issues with a "news show" Several ppl have suggestions for tightening up the segment Cut tighter around pregnant woman.

AnnC: Dance and youth center Might be good to give people information about organizations mentioned

Carlene: Silent fireworks shots

We discuss submission details: How do we submit lower 3rds in text to Renato. Can give start & end times along with text, or submit version with lower thirds & one without.

We decide to leave "branding" to Renato and Matt.

Also, Corey is back for a little while.

We go back to show timeline issues:

With tight cutting, we can get: Jim- 2 mins Arts- 5.5 mins Cameras 6 mins Weather 5 mins Street intros: 30 seconds Contra dancing 5.5 minutes Kids 5 minutes

Matt and Jim want to cut map out of credits. Sounds like we can make it into 27 minute space.

Cut down to alloted time, Renato may cut a little bit more from pieces if needed.

By the time this all goes out, we need: Tape, Lower third text & timing, Releases.

One contract for show under Executive Producer's name Each producer has own contract if checking out/using CCTV equipment.

    • send Email: 4:00 PM Sunday -- edit with Renato. Final decisions made, blood shed here. Show up and help, or yield some creative control.

Next week: Push "formatting" from agenda to next show New segment brainstorm
