Minutes of meeting 28th August 2006

Held in Training room, CCTV

Present: Angel (Briefly, making PSA), Jenn (not really, brought Agendas - thanks!), Andrew P, Paul, Terrence, Elizabeth, Birgit, Buz, Matt, Vijay

Terrence suggests watching a DVD about 9/11 'Truth'. We start watching.

We pause as Terrence briefly left and more people arrived

Vijay talks about a piece he would like to make on a play about Guantanomo inmates. We discuss what we can do with existing footage, or what new efforts can be made. Elizabeth suggests doing a new art piece done by Vijay, and we film it. Buz doesn't think that what we're talking about is a news piece. Buz recommends putting on CCTV, not the news show. Paul offers to crew. Buz recommmends spending some time designing something. Paul mentions that 5 minutes may not do it justice. Paul recommends news slant of 1yr anniversary. Birgit recommends people who acted reflecting on it one year after. Birgit recommends short piece and long piece.

We approve last week's minutes.

We discuss deadline for next show.

Panel discussion. Will it be balanced? Terrence has no right wing speakers. Paul is concerned, Terrence thinks the underground position is newsworthy in itself. Paul wants to know how Terrence would frame the piece, and is suitably convinced.

Now we go back to the idea about a 'Roundtable Discussion', does this current idea fit the bill. Buz doesn't think so, and thinks the current idea is not in itself bad, but odd for a news show. Birgit thinks it would be good to have someone to put facts on the other side. Terrence makes fun of the idea. He wants to know what the point of questioning these people is. How do we achieve making a piece about a movement?

Buz suggests making a 45 minutes show and making a piece out of it afterwards.

Discussion continues around the same topics. What is news and what is not.

Terrence feels that his concept has been altered, and wants to give two minutes explaining why what he wants to do is important. - We are in the middle of a totalitarian/fascist takeover

Discussion is broken off by Elizabeth. Buz says people will be skeptical and must show courtesy to people like him.

Paul feels we could lose viewers. Buz coins the term "Fox on the left". Andrew tries to make it clear that we are trying to reach people 'out there'.

We still can't work out how to not come across as biased. Buz feels that even an objective one sided piece is telling people what to think. Terrence continues to argue his point.

Matt says some stuff.

Paul tries to finalize what we will do. We talk more, but we still don't reach a decision. The idea of making a piece about a view/movement has consensus.

We move on and discuss Katrina, Internet Free Speech, Area 4 blackouts and Cambridge Gangs. Andrew P is working on Area 4 blackouts, discussion on how to make into a piece

Elizabeth has an idea for Episode 2.3 - Cambridge Forum and Stebbins Gallery Sept 25th Is This America: Speaking truth to power. Biography of I. M. Stone, poetry reading, visual art exhibit.

Minor noting that Katrina event is outside Cambridge. No movement on Internet Free Speech.

Deadline for final cuts is Friday 8th September.

Next meeting: Because of labor day, we will meet on Tuesday 5th September in CCTV.

Matt will write the next press release.

Publicity. Terrence will make a flyer with a 9/11 focus.

What else is in the show. Buz will be shooting the Katrina piece. Terrence could put together his movie theatre interviews, with editing help. Paul can start working on an Area 4 piece. Blackout piece (Andrew).

Elizabeth proposes meeting on Tuesday 26th in the gallery, so we can attend/shoot at the Cambridge Forum on the 25th.

Defer party plans.

Paul feels we have a shortage of editors.

Buz wants to find a director for Thursday. This arose out of our discussion on who has what skills (editors, above).

We discuss copies of the show. They don't exist yet.

Paul motions to adjourn.
