News Group Meeting Minutes - Aug 29, 2005
Present were Ken Kreshtool, Jonah Elgart, Ann Cowan, Buz Owen, Elliot Eggleston - (new member). Moogie dropped by but couldn't stay. Jim was delayed by a rainstorm but showed up at the end of the meeting.
Ann's checkin preceded other business. Long discussion of how arrangements the city council shoot are going - not really well since Ann didn't get many (any?) responses to her inquiries of council candidates. Also our original show idea more or less duplicates something CCTV staff is already doing, (and does every year).
Ann also contacted League of Women Voters - they are mostly suburban and/or Boston area. No committed moderator so far.
Alternatives discussed - switch to school board - which might not be so well covered already. Drop the accompanying long show.
Resolution for now - keep trying to contact council candidates but maybe shot them at sites convenient to individual candidates. Give candidates 45 seconds for their statement and make a 7.5 minute segment. Still try for half hour show also but not in round table format (?).
Rest of meeting:
Agenda was approved..
Discussion of other segments and interstitials.
Ken mentioned the idea of a science segment. Everyone likes this.
Interstitials - we want them in next show - Buz will resurrect rooftops idea, Elliot will help.
Ann C shot Cambridge Carnival on 28th - has 30 mins of footage. Angel will use in her followup piece on the Carnival.
Jonah has a contact who will supply footage for a skul segment. (Skul is a bicycle club. They premiered a film of themselves at the Coolidge - footage is available from the film and of the attendees.)
Jen's piece on public access should be ready without too much effort.
Moogie's Green Street Grill piece may be available - Moogie can't reach his friend who has the material on hard disk but will recapture the original tapes and start a new edit.
Ken has contacts with someone at one of the school channels who may be able to supplly us with material for a segment. (Sorry I forget the other details.)
Next air date. Rough edits due the 12th, final edits the 19th, and the show will broadcast on the 26th.
Jim showed up and we viewed the man-on-the-street questions he and Birgit taped. Some funny stuff but not many thoughtful informed questions. They spent about three hours in Harvard Square finding people and shooting their questions. So this part of the council candidates idea may may not work.
We viewed a few minutes of Ann's Cambridge Carnival footage but ran out of meeting time.
Our latest cd duplication order is done. DVDs of episode iii are available from Buz for $2.00 each. The reduced price is due the larger copy run.
