Minutes of News Group Meeting 10/24/05

Present - Andrew, Angel (also editing), Birgit , Buz, Jim, Rock.

We introduced ourselves to Rock, a new potential newsie - describing a bit about how we work and the roles of the position holders.

The agenda was bashed.

Jonah delivered the archive of episode 4 to Buz so that the hard disk can be cleared off.

The previous weeks agenda was printed off the wiki, distributed and approved.

Jen showed several versions of the party flier and we chose elements from each for the final version. Jen then copied these and handed them out to be posted by the attending members.

Jim brought up the suggestion of renaming the meeting facilitator position because the people who made up the flyer thought something else would sound better. This was quickly tabled because everyone in the room seemed to have a different favorite. Some suggestions were Executive Director, Director of Operations, or Managing Director.

Jim showed our new web pages on his laptop - they look great. Thanks to Jim and Birgit for their efforts. The possibllity of getting a url for ourselves was mentioned and Jim promptly followed up after the meeting by reserving "youareherenews.org".

A subcomittee was established to meet sometime when Ann C was available, to discuss the intern "contract" with cctv.

Jonah produced some artwork on the spot for Andrew to put in the YouAreHere buttons, which should be available next meeting/party.

Andrew presented the brochure (several people's work) which looks very impressive. It was complete except for the choice of a picture to fill some white space on the front.

Checkins:

Jen was still planning on doing the pumpkin carving.

Buz had regatta footage which was suitable for interstitials but not a full story. Also, footage of the outside of CCTV during the brownout, which he promised to augment with an interview with Susan, and an opposing viewpoint if possible.

Angel has a 4 to 5 minute piece on the '05 Cambridge Carnival likely finished Weds.

Jonah had completed the taping of intros.

Jim had some tape of the Garment District event that needs further work.

Birgit said her Alewife piece was coming along.

Talking Points:

Finally, we spent time going over talking points for our presentation at our party/info session.

First ask why are people here - to get people talking about themselves.
