News Group Minutes - 21 Nov 05

Present - Jonah, Elisa, Jim, Angel, Andrew, Buz, Ann C, Birgit, Rock, Paul (in study hall)

We welcomed Elisa as CCTV intern assigned to the group, since her assignment was now official.

Minutes of previous meeting were corrected and approved.

The official Intern contract handed out and rediscussed. (Autonomy vs tasks). It will be reevaluated in 2 or 3 months time - after checking in with Elise.

Press Pass - Elisa has info needed and some designs. A committee will meet to evaluate.

Checkins:

Birgit had emailed she had a piece in progress.

Paul's T Stop footage shown - looks good.

Angel reported she has a rough cut, but didn't show it.

Paul asked for edit help. Elisa volunteered.

Jen had made calls about her military recruiting piece. The recruiters wanted to talk, but no call back from the school board (Harding).

Rock reported he had made arrangements to interview D.L. Polanski at the Out of the Blue Gallery.

Estimates of total segment time for next episode came to 16.5 minutes.

Anddrew and Jonah volunteered to shoot street intros for the next show.

Continuity.

There was further discussion of ways to add continuity to show, per Paul's remark at previous meeting. New ideas - handwriting appearing animation-style between segments, over the shoulder shot of cameraman shooting intros.

Re our competition. The Hometown video festival winners for news show (Paper Tiger TV, to whom we ran second) had a much punchier show than we do, in the areas of graphics (not content). Some people had seen it and said it is very impressive.

Other Business:

Contracts - Buz reminded people to close their contracts after the news episode that includes their piece. I.e. your contract isn't closed automatically.

Ann C will be away on the 28th - Paul will chair.

Party planning.

This will be a low key event, but we will do some new postering. Elisa will update the poster.

Food:

Paul - veggie platter.
Buz - beer.
Anger - paper products and chips
Elisa - cookies or whatever
Andrew - pizza

As usual, we will have a brief meeting at party.

T Shirts - Angel has done some research. Cafe Press, who did the buttons, looks good as a source. Color was discussed, black was popular.

Our award certificate had arrived from the Home Video Festival. It will be framed and put on the CCTV wall. Copies may be made and distributed(?).
